The Russian government has completely ignored the raid on an NGO based in Grozny which once again showed that rule of law is absent in the country. However, the illegal raid was just the beginning for the “Russian committee against torture” which is now being accused of violating the “Foreign Agent” law by Roskomnadzor. The organization was accused of handing out leaflets in support of victims of torture on which it failed to show that the organization was a “foreign agent” and the organization now faces a fine of up to five hundred thousand rubles. The head of the organization has announced that “committee against torture” could be forced to disband in the near future. If the “committee against torture” disbands it will be another dark day for human rights in Russia.
