On November 4 the newly elected Prime Minister revealed the list of his cabinet. The new cabinet includes 15 women and is fairly balanced with regard to regional representation. We at Highway Liberty were delighted to see among the cabinet ministers Chrystia Freeland, who has been appointed Minister of International Trade.
Ms Freeland, a journalist, author and politician, is noted for her unwavering defense of minority rights. Her international expertise lies especially in eastern European politics and culture, as shown by her degree in Russian history and literature and her involvement with the Ukrainian-speaking community.
Highway Liberty has had a rewarding experience with Ms Freeland having her speak at our July 4 rally in front of the Russian Consulate General in Toronto. On that day, together with KyivPride Canada, we staged a demonstration entitled ‘Canada, Stand Up for the Oppressed!’ running a creative performance to reiterate our strong disagreement with the current Russian divide-and-rule politics of homophobia and war-mongering, and also collecting signatures under a petition to prevent Russia’s hosting of World Cup 2018.
We would like to congratulate Chrystia Freeland on her new appointment and wish her smooth and fruitful cooperation with her new colleagues in the Cabinet for the benefit and welfare of Canada.
