July 31 – Alexey Begun, head of the Belarus Internal Affairs Ministry Citizenship and Migration Department has unveiled the number of refugees Belarus is capable of accommodating without their becoming a threat/risk to the state.
“What we’re saying is, we must always take the interests of the country into account whenever we’re considering accepting and integrating refugees in our society, offering them accommodation, jobs, comfortable stay, healthcare”, said Mr. Begun. “One or two hundred would be absolutely harmless for government authorities and newcomers alike. At present, there are 26 refugees here. A bit over 1,500 enjoy additional protection. Neither category is treated like outcasts in Belarus. Both go through the integration procedures, many of them becoming citizens.”
According to Mr. Begun, Belarus grants permanent residency to over 15 thousand yearly.
